Costume frenzy!

We are nearing production week and we are well and truly on the down-hill run with the costume construction.

On Sunday 22nd April we had our last sewing bee where we were constructing tunics for the piece that Jade has choreographed (you can read more about this in the previous post). It is an all-girls dance piece called ‘All to get her’, and the costumes are in soft purples, pinks and blues in floaty fabrics. The basic design for the tunics are full-length with long slits up the sides, loose sleeves and gathered at the shoulders and waist.
We had a really productive day, with a dream team of sewers including Lyn, Anne, Jeannette, Sonia and Maz. The dancers were rehearsing in the studio, so they could pop in for fittings which was a great help. As well as completing most of the tunics, we were able to finish all the hems on the denim shorts too.

Thanks heaps to the volunteers, it’s amazing what a team of 6 enthusiastic and practical creators can do! I can’t wait to see the dancers doing the dress rehearsals, and then the costumes on the stage in front of an audience in a few weeks.

Inspiration from flowers. I love the pale dusky  blue of this lavender.

Some of the dancers checking out the sketches of their costumes when they came out of rehearsal for fittings.

And as for me right now? I’m going to put my feet up and enjoy the progress we made. :)
